Digital Distance Radio Magnetic Indicator (DDRMI)

Home / Portfolio / Digital Distance Radio Magnetic Indicator (DDRMI)

This module implements the Digital Distance Radio Magnetic Indicator (DDRMI) in its full detail. It displays magnetic heading, VOR 1 and VOR 2 magnetic bearings, ADF 1 and ADF 2 magnetic bearings, and DME 1 and DME 2 distances. It has two needles for each of which you can select to display either VOR or ADF bearing through the selection knobs on the bottom of the instrument. The left side (dotted line needle) is VOR 1 or ADF 1. The right side (double line needle) is VOR 2 or ADF 2. At the top of the instrument the DME 1 distance (left) and DME 2 distance (right) are displayed. Failure flags indicate the inoperative state of the respective indications.

Click below to see the instrument in action. On the right hand side you see the Raspberry Pi Desktop (via Windows Remote Desktop), and on the left hand side you see a small Windows test application to vary the different parameters. The Raspberry Pi and the windows PC communicate with eachother over a WIFI LAN.
